hehe see what i did there? this topic is to discuss for us history buffs, which battle, war, or conflict interests us the most, and why, elaborate however you wish.

the conflict that interests me the most would have to be the US involvement in the Somalian Civil War in the 90's. why?... well the films, and documentaries kind of started it all for me. then when i dug deeper, i learned it was more than just "black hawk down" the Delta force black hawk down game also, jogged some interest as well as some of the simulations of arma II. id have to say i am also very much more interested in the 90's era of the US military, ALICE, BDU's and M16s... it all seemed more soldiery, rugged and intimidating rather than the digital micro scale we have now. i would have to say that im so much into it ive been collecting bits and peices of the Ranger loadout impression that they had at the time, i have most of it actually and i try to research into how its all put together, you dont just put it on, soldiers find methods of making there uniforms and equipment better for the feild....

now lets here what all you got that interests you!

I'm personally a big early medieval/late classical kinda of guy. It's got all you need in a good historical story: crumbling empires, familial and factional disputes, religious fragmentation and heresies, legions fighting proto-Vikings, and the Plague to wrap it all up into a neat little bow.
This fascination originally came from my two loves of history: Rome and the British Isles. The Isles is due to the vast majority of my ancestry is from there and Rome because it's fuckin' Rome.
Now battle/war wise you cannot do any better than the Conquests of Justinian and his reign in general. Here is a series of videos about it since it would take a literal lecture or two to explain it all.

My interest lies mainly in the 19th - mid 20th centuries. If wanna talk about empires collapsing, check out Europe re-form re-shape and implode several times, and then lose nearly all their colonies. All within about 100 years. Not to mention the oddness of technological advance, steam powered ships with huge sail rigging, cavalry charges into machine gun lines, airships dropping bombs, and countries shifting from agriculture to industry, which really determined how relevant they would remain in the late 20th century to today.

Of specific interest to me is the U.S. Civil War, The American-Indian wars, WW1, WW2 (obviously hah),the Cold War and the various colonial wars fought throughout Africa and Asia from the early 19th century all the way up into the end of the cold war.

those are all pretty interesting, i know sometimes when i do wargamming and my buddies host a big event, we sometimes play Franco Prussian war battles, and British vs Zulu battles, which are pretty fun and sometimes direct my interest to those conflicts and time periods for a little while.
